Agent setup

Connect your AI agent to SEO Scaler with the hosted MCP endpoint and an API key.

SEO Scaler gives your agent live SEO data through MCP. The SEO Scaler agent in the app already has the tools and the 12 skills built in. Use this page when you also want an external agent, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, to work with your SEO Scaler projects.

There is no plugin to install. You connect your agent to one hosted endpoint and authenticate with an API key you create in the app.

1. Create an API key

  1. Open Settings in SEO Scaler and go to API keys.
  2. Create a key and copy it when it appears. It is shown once.
  3. Store it as an environment variable, not in chat or in a repository:
export SEO_SCALER_API_KEY=oseo_YOUR_KEY

API keys are personal. Anything an agent does with your key acts as you in your workspace, and paid calls still need your approval.

2. Add the MCP server

The hosted endpoint is:

https://seo-scaler-preview.vercel.app/mcp

Name the server seo-scaler in your client.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user seo-scaler https://seo-scaler-preview.vercel.app/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $SEO_SCALER_API_KEY"

Use --scope local instead to connect only the current repository.

Codex CLI

codex mcp add seo-scaler --url https://seo-scaler-preview.vercel.app/mcp --bearer-token-env-var SEO_SCALER_API_KEY

Other clients

See the MCP guide for Cursor and any client that can send a custom HTTP header.

3. Check the connection

Restart or reload your agent, then ask it:

List my SEO Scaler projects.

If it returns your projects, the connection works. If it cannot find a project, ask it to list projects first and use the returned project ID in later requests.

Using skills

The 12 SEO Scaler skills run inside the SEO Scaler agent in the app. An external agent connected over MCP gets the same data tools, so you can ask it for a focused job in plain words, for example "research keywords for our pricing page" or "audit this site and list the top five problems". See what each skill does to pick a job.

Keep it up to date

The MCP endpoint is hosted, so new and improved tools reach your agent without any update step. If a tool seems missing, reload your agent or start a new session.

To replace a key, create a new one in Settings -> API keys, update SEO_SCALER_API_KEY, and delete the old key.
